Mike Hyatt serves as the Superintendent of Gallup-McKinley County Schools (GMCS), one of the largest and most diverse districts in New Mexico. With a strong commitment to equity and excellence in education, he leads a district that spans a vast geographic area and serves students from a wide range of cultural and community backgrounds.
Leadership & Vision
Appointed as superintendent in 2017, Hyatt brought to the role his experience as Assistant Superintendent, along with a deep understanding of the unique needs of the district. Under his leadership, GMCS has focused on expanding opportunities for students, strengthening instructional practices, and improving support for teachers and staff.
Innovation in Education
Hyatt has championed forward-looking initiatives, including the development of innovative online learning models such as RISE Online, to ensure students in rural and remote areas have access to high-quality instruction. His leadership emphasizes leveraging technology, community partnerships, and culturally responsive practices to prepare students for success in higher education, careers, and civic life.
